Find the area of the shaded region given in figure

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Area of the shaded region
= area (`Delta` ABC) - area (`Delta` DBC).
For `Delta` ABC having sides 122 m, 120 m and 22 m, we have
`s=(1)/(2)(122 + 120 + 22)m`
`=((1)/(2) xx 264)m = 132 m`.
`therefore" "(s-a)=(132-122)m = 10m`,
`(s-b)=(132-120)m=12m`
and `(s-c)=(132-22)m = 110 m`.
`therefore" ""area"(Delta ABC)=sqrt(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c))`
`=sqrt(132 xx 10 xx 12 xx 110)m^(2)`
`=(12 xx 11 xx 10)m^(2) = 1320 m^(2)`.
For `Delta` DBC having sides 26 m, 24 m and 22 m, we have
`s = (1)/(2)(26 + 24 + 22)m=((1)/(2)xx 72)m = 36 m`.
`therefore" "(s-a)=(36-26)m=10m, (s-b)=(36-24)m = 12m and (s-c)=(36-22)m = 14m`.
`therefore" ""area"(Delta DBC)=sqrt(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c))`
`=sqrt(36 xx 10 xx 12 xx 14)m^(2)`
`=24 xx sqrt(105)m^(2)=(24 xx 10.25)m^(2)` (approx).
`=246 m^(2)`.
`therefore" "` area of the shaded region
= area(`Delta`ABC)-area(`Delta`DBC)
`=(1320-246)m^(2)=1074 m^(2)`.
