Find the HCF of `612` and `1314` using prime factorisation.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We have

` 612= ( 2 xx 2 xx 3xx 3xx 17) = (2^(2) xx 3^(2) xx 17)`
` and 1314 = ( 2 xx 3 xx 3 xx 73)= ( 2 xx 3^(3) xx 73)`
HCF ( 612, 1314)= product of common terms with lowest power
` = ( 2xx 3^(2)) = (2 xx 9) = 18`
HCF ( 612 ,1314) = product of prime factors with highest power.
` = ( 2^(2) xx 3^(2) xx 17xx 73) = ( 4xx 9xx 17xx 73)`
= 44676
Hence, HCF= 18 and LCM = 4476.
