A lift is coming from 8th floor and it just a about to reach 4th flor. Taking ground floor as origin and positive direction upwards for all quantities, which one of the following is correct ?

A

`x lt 0, v lt 0, a gt0`

B

`x gt 0, v lt 0, a lt 0`

C

`x gt 0, v lt 0, a gt 0`

D

`x fr 0, v gt 0 , a lt 0`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

`x lt 0, v lt 0, a gt 0`
As the lift is coming in downward directions displacement will be negative. We have to see whether the motion is accelerating or retarding.
We know that due to downward motion displacement will be negative. When the lift reaches 4th floor it is about to stop hence, motion is retarding in nature hence, `x lt 0, a gt 0.`
As displacement is in negative direaction, velocity will also be negative i.e., `v lt 0.`
THis can be shown on the adjacent graph.

A plumber steps down 1 m out of his truck and walks 50m east and then 25m South, and then takes an elevator to the basement of the building 9 m below steet level. If the east, the north and the upwards direction are represent by the positive x, y and z- axes, which one of the following represent displacement (meters ) of the plumber ?

A man whose mass is m kg jumps vertically into air from a sitting position in which his centre of mass is at a height h_(1) from the ground. When his feet are just about to leave the ground his centre of mass is h_(2) from the ground and finally rises to h_(3) when he is at top of the jump . What is the average upwards force exerted by the ground on him ?

A circus wishes to develop a new clown act. Fig. (1) shows a diagram of the proposed setup. A clown will be shot out of a cannot with velocity v_(0) at a trajectory that makes an angle theta=45^(@) with the ground. At this angile, the clown will travell a maximum horizontal distance. The cannot will accelerate the clown by applying a constant force of 10, 000N over a very short time of 0.24s . The height above the ground at which the clown begins his trajectory is 10m . A large hoop is to be suspended from the celling by a massless cable at just the right place so that the clown will be able to dive through it when he reaches a maximum height above the ground. After passing through the hoop he will then continue on his trajectory until arriving at the safety net. Fig (2) shows a graph of the vertical component of the clown's velocity as a function of time between the cannon and the hoop. Since the velocity depends on the mass of the particular clown performing the act, the graph shows data for serveral different masses. The slope of the line segments plotted in figure 2 is a figure constant. Which one of the following physical quantities does this slope represent?

Internal micrometer is a measuring intrument used to measure internal diameter (ID) of a large cylinder bore with high accuracy. Construction is shown in figure. There is one fixed rod B (to the right in figure) and one moved rod A (to the left in figure). It is based on the particle of advancement of a screw when it is rotated in a nut with internal threads. Main scale reading can be directly seen on the hub which is fixed with respect to rod B. When the cap is rotated rod A moves in or cut depending on direction of rotation. The circular scale reading is seen by checking which division of circular scale coincide with the references line This is to be multiplied by LC to get circular scale reading. Least count = value of 1 circular scale division = ("pitch")/("number of division on circular scale") Length of rod A is chosen to match the ID(PQ) to be measured. Zero error is checked by taking reading between standard blocks fixed at normal value of ID to be measured. Zero error is positive if cap end is one the right of the main scale and negative it is on the left side. In the above instrument, while measuring an internal diameter. ID is set of 321 mm with no zero error. It cap end is after n^(th) division adn 17^(th) division of main scale coincides with the reference line, the ID is -

A block is released on the slant face of a wedge of equal mass placed on a horizontal floor. The slant face of the wedge makes an angle of 45^(@) with the floor.
