Figure-2.47 shows a cylindrical container of radius 5cm and a piston is fitted in it to enclose a length of 20 cm in it.The cylinder contains an ideal gas at a pressure of 1 atmosphere and 300 K temperature. The cylinder is slowly heated and it is found that the piston starts displacing when the gas temperature reaches 600 K. It is given that the friction coefficient between the piston sidesand the container wall is 0.2. Find the normal force acting between piston sides and the container wall per unit length ofits circumference.

Figure shows a cylindrical tube of radius 5cm and length 20cm. It is closed by a tight-fitting cork. The friction coefficient between the cork and the tube is 0.20. The tube contains an ideal gas at a pressure of 1atm and a temperature of 300K. The tube is slowly heated and it is found that the cork pops out when the temperature reaches 600K. Let dN denote the magnitude of the normal contact force exerted by a small length dl of the cork along the periphery (see the figure). Assuming that the temperature pf the gas is uniform at any instant, calculate(dN)/(dl).

A cylinder fitted with a piston is filled with a gas at a given temperature and pressure. Explain on the basis of the kinetic theory the increase in pressure of the gas as its temperature is increased.

A cylinder fitted with a piston contains an ideal monoatomic gas at a temperature of 400K . The piston is held fixed while heat DeltaQ is given to the gas, it is found the temperature of the gas has increased by 20K . In an isobaric process the same DeltaQ heat is supplied slowely to it. Find the change in temperature in the second process?
