What does one mean by exothermic and endothermic reactions ? Give examples.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Exothermic reactions are those reactions during which heat energy is released .
E.g. (a) `2Mg+O_(2)rarr2MgO+"Heat"`
(b) `CaO+H_(2)OrarrCa(OH)_(2)+"Heat"`
Those chemical reactions in which heat energy is required to carry out the reactions are called endothermic reactions.
E.g. (a) `CaCO_(3) overset("Heat")CaO+CO`
(b) `H_(2)+Soverset("Heat")H_(2)S`
