An aluminium can is used to store ferrous sulphate solution. It is observed that in few days holes appeared in the can. Explain the observation and write the chemical equations to support your answer.

It is a displacement reaction. Aluminium is more reactive than iron. So, Fe is displaced by Al and aluminium sulphate is formed and iron is precipitated.
`3FeSO_(4) + 2Al rarr Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) + 3Fe`.
