In human beings, the statistical probability of getting either a male or a female child is 50%. Give reasons and explain with the help of a diagram.

A child who inherits a X chromosome from the father would be a girl (XX) while a child who inherits a Y chromosome from the father would be a boy (XY). Since, the sex of the child in determined by what he/ she inherits from father, therefore the probability of getting either male or female child is 50%.
