LiF is ionic but `BeF_2` is covalent. Comment.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The electronegativity difference between elements of LiF is 3 and of `BeF_2` is 2.5. Both are expected to be ionic. But due to high polarisation ability of `Be^(2+)` ion, `BeF_2` is not pure ionic. It is more covalent.
