Potassium super oxide is preferred to so...

Potassium super oxide is preferred to sodium peroxide to purify air. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Air usually contains carbon monoxide and carbondioxide pollutants. Sodium peroxide converts carbondioxide to oxygen, but it has no reaction with carbonmonoxide. Potassium superoxide reacts with both carbonmonoxide and carbondioxide giving oxygen. Hence `KO_(2)` is preferred over `Na_(2)O_(2)`
