A book with many printing errors contains four different formulae for the displacement y of a particle undergoing a certain periodic motion.
1. `y= asin""(2pit)/(T)`
2. `y= asinvt`
3. `y= (a)/(T)sin""(t)/(a)`
4. `y= (asqrt(2))(sin((2pit)/(T))+ cos((2pit)/(T)))`
where a is the maximum displacement of the particle, v is the speed of the particle, T is the time period of motion. Then dimensionally

A

1 and 2 are wrong

B

2 and 3 are wrong

C

3 and 4 are wrong

D

1 and 4 are wrong

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Since LHS is displacement, so RHS should have dimensions of displacement. Also argument of a trigonometric function should be dimensionless. In (2) argument is not dimensionless. In (3) argument is not dimensionless and `(a)/(T)` has not dimension of displacement. Therefore (2) and (3) are dimensionally wrong.

A book with many printing errors contains four different forumlae for the displacement y of a particle undergoing a certain periodic motion : (i) y = a sin (2pi t)/(T) (ii) y = a sin upsilon t (iii) y = (a)/(T) sin (t)/(a) (iv) y= (a)/(sqrt2)[sin(2pi t)/(T) + cos (2pi t)/(T)] Here, a is maximum displacement of particle, upsilon is speed of particle, T is time period of motion. Rule out the wrong forumlae on dimensinal grounds.

A student writes four different expression for the displacement y in a period motion y = a sin"(2 pi r)/(T) y = a sin vt y = (a)/(t) sin"(t)/(a) y = (a )/(sqrt(2))[sin'(2 pi r)/(T)+ cos '(2 pi r)/(T)] where a is maximum displacement , x is the speed and T is the time period then dimensionally.

A book with many printing errors contains four different formulae for the displacement y of a particle undergoing a certain periodic motion : y=a sin vt (a = maximum displacement of the particle, v= speed of the particle, T = time-period of motion). Rule out the wrong formula on dimensional grounds.

The displacement of a particle varies with time according to the relation y=a sin omega t +b cos omega t .

Rule out or accept the following formula for displacement y of particle undergoing periodic motion on the basis of dimentional arguments : (i) a sin 2pi t"/"T (ii) a cos vt (iii) a sin (omegat -kx) where a= maximum displacement of the particle T= time period of motion, t= time interval, v= speed of particle, omega = Angular speed of particle, k= displacement constant.
