Light is incident on a glass surface at ...

Light is incident on a glass surface at polarising angle of `57.5^(@)` Then the angle between the incident ray and the refracted ray is

A

`57.5^(@)`

B

`115^(@)`

C

`205^(@)`

D

`145^(@)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

When a light is incident at polarising angle, the reflected and refracted ray are perpendicular to each other as shown in the figure.
where `i_(p)` is the angle of incidence r is the angle of refraction.
Given : `i_(p)=57.5^(@)`
Let `theta` be the angle between the incident ray and the refracted ray.
From figure :
`theta=i_(p)+r=90^(@)=2i_(p)=90^(@)=2xx57.5^(@)+90^(@)=205^(@)`
`[Since i_(p)=r]`
