It is the process of formation of slag (low fusible substance) by the reaction of flux with impurities of the ore, during metallurgy. For example, in the metallurgy of iron, `CaO` (a basic flux) is used to convert the acidic impurtiy `SiO_(2)` to `CaSiO_(3)` (slag).
