The coordination number of carbon in diamond is 4. It has fee structure similar to that of zinc sulphide. Unit cell of ZnS has 4 zinc cations and 4 sulphide anions. In diamond all lattice points are occupied by carbon atoms. Hence, number of carbon atoms in unit cell of diamond = 8and `Z = XYZ_(3)`
