When gypsum is totally dehydrated, what is the percentage weight loss ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

GMW of gypsum, `CaSO_(4).2H_(2)O = 172 g`
weight of water of hydration`= 2 xx 18 = 36 g`
172 g loses 36 g of water on dehydration Percentage weight loss `=36xx(100)/(172)=20.9`
