We are standing in a bus moving with constant velocity. When brakes are applied to bus we are thrown in forward direction ? Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When we are standing in stationary bus our feet are in touch with the floor.
Frictional force is between feet and floor of the bus.
When bus suddenly start due to friction our feet start moving in direction of bus whereas rest of the body try to retain position due to inertia.
hence we are thrown in backward direction in opposite direction of of bus whereas rest of the body try to retain position due to inertia
hence we are thrown in backward direction in oppsite direction of acceleration of bus.

Assertion: In successive time intervals if the average velocities of a particle are equal then the particle must be moving with constant velocity. Reason: When a particle moves with uniform velocity, its displacement always increases with time.

Why state of body and body at rest and body moving with constant velocity are equal ? What is inertia ?

Two objects move in the same direction in a straight line. One moves with a constant velocity v_(1) . The other starts at rest and has constant acceleration a. They collide when the second object has velocity 2v_(1) . The distance between the two objects when the second one starts moving is :-

When a constant force is applied to a body, it moves with unifrom

For an object moving on a straight line, draw xtot graphs for : (i) When it is rest. (ii) When it is moving with constant velocity in positive direction. (III) When it is moving with constant velocity in · negative direction. (iv) When it performs non-uniform motion.

A body of mass 10kg is moving with a constant velocity of 10m//s . When a constant force acts for 4 seconds on it, it moves with a velocity 2m//sec in the opposite direction. The acceleration produced in it is

Assertion: When a person walks on a rough surface, the frictional force exerted by the surface on the person is opposite to the direction of tendenc of motion his leg. Reason: If a body moves with constant velocity, then it means that body is moving along straight line & there is no acceleration.

Assertion: In projectile motion, the acceleration is constant in both magnitude and direction but the velocity changes in both magnitude and direction. Reason: When a force or accelration is acting in an oblique direction to the direction of velocity then both magnitude and direction of the velocity may be changed.
