Explain - “Static friction force opposes impending motion”

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Consider motion of an acceleration
Let a box is lying at bottom of compartment of train.
if there was no friction bottom of train would have moved further box will try to retain its position due to inertia and would collide with rear part of compartment but this do not happen in dayh to day life .
Thus if can be said that static friction force opposes impending motion.
this impending motion is opposed by static friction force `(f_(g))` This friction force provide equal acceleration in opposite direction of acceleration of train keep box stationary

How do static friction oppose motion

What is friction ? Explain static frictional force is caused due to roughness of force at microscopic level.

Assertion :- When a man climbs the rope friction force acts in downward direction. Reason :- Friction force opposes relative motion to tendency of relative motion between two contact surfaces.

“When a person walk on rough surface then frictional force act in opposite direction of motion” - True or false ?

Assertion: Frictional force is the component of contact force parallel to the surface. Reason: Friction force always opposes the motion of a body.

Assertion : The force of tension on a body always act away from the body. Reason: Friction force always opposes the motion of a body.

Assertion: Static frictional force is a self adjusting force. Reason: Force of static friction does not depend upon the mass of the body.
