Obtain the formula for the maximum safe speed `(v_(max))` of a vehicle on a level curved road

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) vehicle is shown moving on a horizontal curved road. The mass of vehicle be m and the radius be R

Figure (b ) shows the vehicle moving on a circular track
the friction between the tyre and the road surface provides the neccesary centripetal force
In order tomove safely on this road
`(mv^(2))/( R )` force is required and it should be equal to maximum frictional force
`(f_(g)) _(max) = mu_(s) N`
where `mu_(s)` is the coefficient of static friction between the tyres of vehicle and the road.
the above formula shows that the maximum permissible limit of the speed does not depend upon the mass of vehicle or the passenger to driver safely on level circular road. the above given speed called maximum permissible speed should be followed

Two-wheeler can tilt while turning. But four-wheeler cannot. Estimate maximum safe speed of a four-wheeler on turn of radius 10m assuming coefficient of static friction between tires and the flat road to be 0.64 and acceleration due to gravity to be 10 m//s^(2) .

Two uniform solid spheres of equal radii R, but mass M and 4 M have a center to centre separation 6 R, as shown in figure. The two spheres are held fixed. A projectile of mass m is projected from the surface of the sphere of mass M directly towards the centre of the second sphere. Obtain an expression for the minimum speed v of the projectile so that it reaches the surface of the second sphere.

(i) In the explanation of photoelectric effect we assume one photon of frequency with v collides with an electron and transfers its energy. This lead to the equation for the maximum energy E_(max) of the emitted electron as E_(max)=hv-phi_(0) Where phi_(0) is the work function of the metal If an electron absorbs 2 photon (each of frequency v)What will be the maximum energy for the emitted electron? (ii)Why is this fact (two photon absorption)not taken into consueration in our discussion of the stopping potential?

A book with many printing errors contains four different formulas for the displacement y of a particle undergoing a certain peroidic motion : (a) y = asin2pi t//T (b) y=asinvt ("c") y=(a//T) sin t//a (d) y=(a//sqrt2) (sin 2pi t//T + cos 2pit//T) (a = maximum displacement of the particle, v=speed of the particle. T=time-period of motion). Rule out the wrong formulas on dimensional grounds)
