Why does a child feel more pain when she falls down on a hard cement floor, than when she falls on the soft muddy ground in the garden ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When a child falls on a cement floor the momentum is reduced to zero in comparatively lessert time .Due to this rate of change of mometum is large so greater force act on him and child feels more pain.
When child falls on soft muddy ground momentum is reduced in comparatively larger time hence force decrease and child feel less pain.

Assertion: A man who falls from aheight on a cement floor receive more injury than when he falls from the same height on a heap of sand. Reason: The impulse applied by a cement floor is more than the impulse by sand floor.

A block sides down a smooth inclined plane when released from the top, while another falls freely from the same point. Which one of them will strike the ground : (a) earlier (b) with greater speed ?

Explain why : (a) a body with large reflectivity is a poor emitter (b) a brass tumbler feels much colder than a wooden tray on a chilly day (c) an optical pyrometer (for measuring high temperatures calibrated for an ideal black body radiation gives too low a value for the temperature of a red hot Iron plece in the open, but gives a correct value for the temperature when the same plece is in the fumace (d) the earth without its atmosphere would be inhospitably cold (e) heating systems based on circulation of steam are more efficient in warming a building than those based on circulation of hot water

(i) A poor emitter has a large reflectivity . Explain why. (ii) A copper tumbler feels much colder than a wooden block on a cold day. Explain why. (iii) The earth would become so cold that life is not possible on it in the absence of the atmosphere. Explain why? (iv) Why clear nights are cooler than cloudy nights? Why does a piece of red glass when heated and taken out glow with green light? (vi) Why does the earth not become as hot as the sun although it has been receiving heat from the sun for ages? (vii) Animals curl into a ball when they are very cool. Why? (viii) Heat is generated continuously in an electric heater but its temperature becomes constant after some time. Explain why? (ix) A piece of paper wrapped tightly on a wooden rod is observed to get charred quickly when held over a flame as compared to a similar piece of paper when wrapped on a brass rod. Explain why? (x) Liquid in a metallic pot boils quickly whose base is made black and rough than in a pot whose base is highly polished . Why?

A parachutist after bailing out falls 52 m without friction. When the parachute opens, she decelerates at 2.1 ms^(-2) & reaches the ground with a speed of 2.9 ms^(-1) . (i) How long has been the parachutist in the air? (ii) At what height did the fall begin?

An object of mass 40kg is raised to a height of 5 m above the ground. What is its potential energy? If the object is allowed to fall, find its kinetic energy when it is halfway down. (Take g=10ms^(-2) .)
