Two spring balances each of mass 2 kg are connected to ceiling of a lift. To the lowest spring a mass of 10 kg is attached. What will be reading of upper spring if lift is moving with g downward acceleration `(g)/(6)` ?

A

12 kg

B

6 kg

C

14 kg

D

10 kg

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

The lower spring balance and mass of 10 kg form a system of 12 kg mass . Therefore we have
`12 g - f = 12 ( g)/( 6) `

` F= 12 g - (12 g)/( 6)`
`= 12 g (1- (1)/(6))`
`=12 g ((5)/( 6))`
`F= 10 g`
Therefore the reading of upper spring will be 10 kg .
