A steady current flows in a metallic conductor of non-uniform cross-section. Which of these quantities is constant along the conductor: current, current density, electric field, drift speed?

Text Solution

Only current will remain constant (according to law of conservation of electric charge).
Here, current density, electric field and drift speed will not remain constant as they depend on area of cross-section.
