Why are alloys used for making standard resistance coils ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Alloys are sensitive at low temperature. Temperature coefficient of resistivity of alloys is very small. Hence for small interval of temperature resistance of wire made up of alloys is almost constant. For given length and cross section area resistance R `prop rho [ because R =(rho l)/(A) ] ` hence alloys are used to prepare standard resistors.
