What is the total current supplied by the battery to the circuit shown ?

A

`6 A`

B

`4 A`

C

`2 A`

D

`1.5 A`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

6 A
Equivalent resistance resistance of parallel connection of `2 Omega and 6 Omega`
`R_(1) = (2 xx 6)/(2 + 6)`
`= (12)/(8) = (3)/(2) Omega = 1.5 Omega `
Now , equivalent of series connection of `R_(1) and 1.5 Omega`
`R_(2) = R_(1) + 1.5`
= 1.5 + 1.5 ` = 3.0 Omega`
Now, equivalent resistance of parallel connection of `R_(2) and 3Omega`
`R = (R_(2) xx 3)/(R_(2) + 3) `
= `(3 xx 3)/(3 + 3) = (9)/(6) = (3)/(2) = 1.5 Omega`
Current in circuit I = `(V)/(R) = (9V)/(1.5) = 6 A `
