A parallel beam of fast moving electrons is incident normally on a narrow slit. A fluorescent screen is placed at a large distance from the slit. If the speed of the electron is increased which of the following statements is correct?

A

The angular width of the central maximum will decrease

B

The angular width of the central maximum will decrease

C

Diffraction pattern is not observed on the screen in the case of electrons.

D

The angular width of the central maximum of diffraction pattern will increases

The correct Answer is:
A

Wavelength of electron
`lambda=(h)/(mv)`
`:. Lambda prop (1)/(v)` h and m is constant
As speed is increased so wavelength will decreases and diffraction depend on `sin theta prop lambda`, as decrease sine also decreases, so `theta` decreases. As a result angular width decreases.

If another slit of same width is made near it. Young's fringes can be observed on a screen placed at a distance 50 cm from the slits. If the observed fringe width is 1 cm, what is slit separation distance ? (i.e. distance between the centres of each slit)

A car is moving with at a constant speed of 60 km h^(-1) on a straight road. Looking at the rear view mirror, the driver finds that the car following him is at a distance of 100 m and is approaching with a speed of 5 km h^(-1) . In order to keep track of the car in the rear, the driver begins to glance alternatively at the rear and side mirror of his car after every 2 s till the other car overtakes. If the two cars were maintaining their speeds, which of the following statement (s) is // are correct?
