In semiconductor at a room temperature ………

A

the conduction band is completely empty.

B

the valence band is partially empty and the conduction band is partially filled.

C

the valence band is completely filled and conduction band is partially filled.

D

the valence band is completely filled.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

the valence band is completely filled and conduction band is partially filled.
At `0^(@)K` conduction band is empty and valence band is filled. At this temperature the conduction electrons do not move to valence band, but at the room temperature, group of electrons moves into conduction band from valence band [due to small forbidden gap (1eV)].
