In a semiconducting material the mobilities of electrons and holes are `mu_(e )` and `mu_(h)` respectively. Which of the following is true?

A

an insulator

B

a metal

C

a n-type semiconductor

D

a p-type semiconductor

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

a p-type semiconductor

According to figure the energy level of acceptor is slightly higher than that of energy level `E_(2)` of valence band of p-type semiconductor. If little energy is given to electron, electron jumps from valence band to acceptor (energy `E_(A)`) level and converts the acceptor impurity into a negative ion.
