In a ring experiment when water is received to above layers of ring then they remain green for some time because they make their food by doing photosynthesis. But they dry up as water is not obtained.
Xylem tissue, supplies water as per the need of leaf absorbed by root. But in ring experiment due to deficiency of xylem the flow of water is closed so the plant dies.
