Bile juice secreted by liver possesses inorganic salts - `Na_2CO_3` and `NaHCo_3` which provides basic medium to food in duodenum. Enzymes of pancreatic juice become active in alkaline medium and can take part in the process of digestion.
Bile juice contains organic salts sodium Torocollate and sodium glycolate. They help in digestion of fat through emulsification and saponification.
Thus though liver does not secrete digestive enzyme, plays important role in digestion so it is an important digestive gland.
