Why is it that the line of treatment for a genetic disease is different from infectious diseases ?

Infectious diseases are controlled by using methods to kill pathogens and it strengthen the immune system. If a person is born with a hereditary disease, there is no medication which can treat the disease. As in such cases malfunctioning of genes , wrong proteins and defective enzymes are produced.
