A reaction is first order in A and second order in B. How the rate is affected (a) on increasing concentration of B three times and (b) on increasing concentration of both A and B twice ?

Text Solution

Rateis given as rate `=K[A][B]^(2)`
(a) If concentration of B is increaseed three times,
new rate `=K[A][3B]^(2)`
`9K[A][B]^(2)`
Hence rate is increased by `9` times
(b) If concentration of both A and B are doubled,
`"new rate"=K[2A][2B]^(2)`
`8K[A][B]^(2)`
Hence rate is increased by `8` times
