How is a mixture of oxides of Aland Fe separated ?

`Fe_(2)O_(3)` is basic and `Al_(2)O_(3)`, is amphoteric. Hence aqueous solution of caustic soda or soda ash is used to dissolve `Al_(2)O_(3)`, which forms soluble meta aluminate.
`Fe_(2)O_(3)` remains as a residue and is separated by filteration.
