Why benzoic acid is a stronger acid than acetic acid?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The `-COOH` group in benzoic acid is connected to `sp^(2)` hybridised carbon of the benzene ring which is more electronegative than `sp^(3)` carbon of `-CH_(3)` to which `-COOH` is connected in acetic acid . Hence benzoic acid is stronger acid .
