Is it possible to consider vegetative propagation observed in certain plants like Bryophyllum, water hyacinth, ginger, etc., as a type of asexual reproduction? Give two three resons.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The formation of new plants from vegetative units (vegetative propagules) such as buds, tubers, rhizomes. etc., is called vegetative propagation (vegetative reproduction). It can be considered as a type of asexual propagation as it involves the production of new individuals.
(i) by a single parent
(ii) without the formation and fusion of gametes
(iii) without resulting in any genetic or morphological variations.

Is it possible to consider vegetative propagation observed in certain plants like Bryophyllum, water hyacinth, ginger etc., as a type of asexual reproduction? Give two/three reasons.

Find out correct order of vegetative propagules of plants like potato, ginger Agave, Bryophyllum and water hyacinth.

Find out correct order of vegetative propagules of plants like potato, ginger Agave, Bryophyllum and water hyacinth.

A: Those parts of the plants which help in vegetative reproduction are called propagules. R: Vegetative propagation is a type of Asexual reproduction

Consider the following statements and choose the correct option (i)The genetic consitution of a plant is unaffected in vegetative propagation (ii) Rhizome in ginger serves as an organ of vegetative reproduction (iii) Totipotency of cells enables us to micropropagate plants

Read the following statement and find out the incorrect statement. (a). Asexual reproduction is common among single-celled organisms, and in plants and animals with relatively complex organisations. (b) In yeast, the division is unequal and small buds are produced that remain attached initially to the parent cell which eventually gets separated and mature into yeast organism (cells). (c). vegetative reproduction is also a type of asexual reproduction. (d) While in animals and other simple organisms the term vegetative reproduction is used unambiguously, in plants the term asexual reproduction is frequently used. (e) Water hyacinth is also called 'Terror of Bengal'

It is not possible to measure the atomic radius precisely since the electron cloud surrounding the atom does not have a sharp boundary. One practical approach to estimate the size of an atom of a non-metallic element is to measure the distance between two atoms when they are bound together by a single bond in a covalent molecule and then dividing by two. For metals we define the term "metallic radius" which is taken as half the inter nuclear distance separating the metal cores in the metallic crystal. Then van der waal's radius represents the over all size of the atoms which includes its valence shell in a non bonded situation. It is the half of the distance between two similar atoms in separate molecules in a solid. The atomic radius decreases across a period and increases down the group. Same trends are observed in case of ionic radius. Ionic radius of the species having same number of electrons depends on the number of protons in their nuclei. Sometimes, atomic and ionic radii give unexpected trends due to poor shielding of nuclear charge by d -and f- orbital electrons. Now answer the following three questions: Which of the following relations is correct, if considered for the same element.

After wathicng a programme on TV about te presence of carcinogens (cancer causing agents) Potassium bromate and Potassium iodate in bread and other bakery products, Rupali a class XII student decided to make other awarre about the adverse effects of these carcinogens in food. she consulted the school principle and requested him to instruct the canteen contractor to stop selling sandwiches, pizzas, burgers and other bakery products to the students. The principal took an immediate action ad instructed the canteen contractor to replace the bakery products with some protein and vitamin rich food like fruits, salads, sprouts, etc. The decision was welcomed by the parents and the students. After reading the above passage, answer the following questions: (a) What are the values (at least two) displayed by Rupali? (b) which polysaccharide component of carbohydrates is commonly present in bread? (c) Write the two types of secondary structures of proteins (d) Give two examples of water soluble vitamin.
