Sulpha drugs kills bacteria and fungi by interfering with their metabolism.
(a) Sulphapyridine is a sulphonamide antibacterial drug. It is no longer precribed for the treatment of infections in humans. It is good antibacterial drug., but its water solubility is very pH dependent. Thus, there is a risk of crystallisation within the baldder or urethra, which could lead to pain or blockage.
(b) Prontosil is also called sulphamidochrysoidine. It is used in the treatment of general bacterial infection in humans.
Salversan is arsenic based antibacterial drug. It is used in the treatment of syphills.
(d) Nardil is an antidepressant drug.
