The maximum bowling speeds, in km per hour, of 33 players at a cricket coaching centre are given as follows.

Calculate the median bowling speed.

First we construct frequency table

It is given that, n=33
`therefore (n)/(2)=(33)/(2)=16.5`
So, the median class is 100-115.
Where, lower limit(l)=100,
frequency(f)=9
Cumulative frequency (Cf)=11
Class width (h)=15
`"Median"=l+(((n_(2))/(2)-cf))/(f)xxh`
`"Median"=l+((16.5-11))/(9)xx15`
`=100+(5.5xx15)/(9)=100+(82.5)/(9)=100+9.17`
=109.17
Hence, the median bowling speed is 109.17km//h.

A stationary source is emitting sound at a fixed frequency f_(0) , which is reflected by two cars approaching the source. The difference between the frequencies of sound reflected from the cars is 1.2% of f_(0) . What is the difference in the speeds of the cars (in km per hour) to the nearest integer ? The cars are moving at constant speeds much smaller than the speed of sound which is 330 ms^(-1) .
