Compare the reactivity of benzaldehyde and ethanal towards nucleophilic addition reactions. Write the cross aldol condensation product between benzaldehyde and ethanal.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The carbon atom of the carbonyl group of benzaldehyde is less electrophilic than carbon atom of the carbonyl group present in ethanal. The polarity of the carbonyl group is reduced in banzaldehyde due to resonance hence less reactive than ethanal.
