Define the following terms :
(i) Electrophoresis
(ii) Adsorption
(iii) Shape selective catalysis

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Electrophoresis - When electric field is applied to the colloidal sol, the particles of the dispersed phase move towardsd oppositely charged electrode and get neutralished.
(ii) Adsorption - The phenomenon of attracting and retaining the molecules of substance on the surface of liquid or solid.
(iii) Shape selective catalysis - Reactions in zeolite (ZSM-5)depends upon size and shpe of reactant and product as compare to those of pores and cavities. Hence they are called shape selective.
