What happens when :
(a) freshly prepared precipitate of `Fe(OH)_(3)` is shaken with a small amount of `FeCl_(3)` solution
(a) persistent dialysis of a colloidal solution is carried out
(c ) an emulsion centrifuges ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) A reddish brown coloured colloidal solution is obtained by adding small quantity of ferric chloride solution to the freshly precipitated ferric hydroxide by the process of peptization.
(b) On persistent dialysis , the electrolyte is completely removed . As a result , the colloidal sol becomes unstable and get coagulated .
(c) Demulsification occurs , i.e., the emulsion separates into its constituent liquids.
