A heap of rice is in the form of a cone of base diameter 24m and height 3.5 m. Find the volume of the rice. How much canvas cloth is required to just cover the heap

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Volume of cone=`1/3pir^2h` and curved surface area of cone=`pirl`
where r is the radius of cone,l is slant height and h is the height.
Given,r=12m and h=3.5m,slant height=l=`sqrt(r^2+h^2)`
thus l=12.5m
Volume of heap=`1/3xx22/7xx12xx12xx3.5=528(cm)^3`
amount of canvas required=curved surface area=`22/7xx12xx12.5=471.4(cm)^2`
