The sum at sunrise (early in the morning) is located near the horizon of the earth. Light from the sun near the horizon has to pass through thick layers of air and a large distance through the earth's atmosphere before reaching our eyes. Near the horizon , most of the blue light rays with shorter wavelength are scattered away by the particles in the atmosphere . Therefore, the light that reaches our eyes is the red light of longer wavelengths . This gives rise to the reddish appearance of the sun.
This phenomenon will not be observed by an observed on the moon because there is no atmosphere on the moon to scatter light.
