A student focuses the image of a well illuminated distant object on a screen using a convex lens. After that the gradually moves the object towards the lens and each time focuses its image on the screen by adjucting the lens.
(a) In which direction -towards the screen or away from the screen, does he move the lens ?
(b)What happens to the size of the image-does it decrease or increase ?
(c) What happens to the image on the screen when he moves the object very close to the lens ?

A student focuses the image of a candle flame, placed at about 2 m from a convex lens of focal length 10 cm, on a screen. A convex lens forms an image of an object on a screen 30 cm from the lens. When the lens is moved 90 cm towards the object, then the image is again formed on the screen. Then, the focal length of the lens is

A convex lens produces an image of a real object on a screen with a magnification of 1/2. When the lens is moved 30 cm away from the object, the magnification of the image on the screen is 2. The focal length of the lens is

An illuminated object and a screen are placed 90 cm apart. What is the focal length and nature of the lens required to produce a clear image on the screen twice the size of the object ?

A 4 cm tall object is placed on the principal axis of a convex lens. The distance of the object from the optical centre of the lens 12 cm and its sharp image is formed at a distance of 24 cm from it on a screen on the lens, in the which ways (towards the lens or away from the lens) will he have to move the screen to get a sharp image of the object on it again? How will the magnification of the image be affected ? .

A student focussed the image of a candle flame on a white screen using a convex lens. He noted down the position of the candle, screen and the lens as under Position of candle = 12.0 cm Position of convex lens = 50.0 cm Position of the screen = 88.0 cm (i) What is the focal length of the convex lens ? (ii) Where will the image be formed if he shifts the candle towards the lens at a position of 31.0 cm . (iii) What will be the nature of the image formed if he further shifts the candle towards the lens ? (iv) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of the image in case (iii) as said above.

An object to the left of a lens is imaged by the lens on a screen 30cm to the right of the lens. When the lens is moved 5cm to the right, the screen must be moved 5cm to the left to refocus the images. The focal length of lens is :-
