Take C1=4.0mu F and C2=6.0mu F in figure...

Take `C_1=4.0mu F and C_2=6.0mu F` in figure. Calculate the equivalent capacitance of the combination between the point s indicated.

Text Solution

(a) `C_1 = h, C_2 = 6 `
C_1 , C_1 are in series and C_2 , C_2 are in series as the v is same at P and Q. So no current passes through P and Q (fig.)
` CP = 2 mu F `
`CQ = 3 mu F `
`C = CP + CQ `
`= 2 +3 = 5 mu F `
(b) `C_1 = 4 mu F , C_2 = 6 mu F`
In case of P and Q, Q = 0
`CP = 2 mu F, CQ = 3 mu F `
and `C' = 2 + 3 = 5 mu F `
`:.` ` C' = C'' = 5 mu F`
The equivalent capacities
`C = C' + C'' `
`= 5 +5 = 10 mu F` .
