Explain how excretion takes place in cockroach

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In cockroach excretion is carried out by Malpighian tubes. Each tube is glandular and covered with ciliated cells. They absorb nitrogenous waste products and convert them into uric acid which is excreted out through the hindgut. Therefore this insect is called uricotelic. In addition, the fat body, nephrocytes and urecose glands also help in excretion. Some excretory substances are stored in exoskeleton of chitin and during moulting it is removed with skeleton.
