Why is the offspring formed by asexual reproduction referred to as a clone ?

In asexual, reproduction only one parent is involved. It does not involve the formation of gametes. It involves only mitosis. New individual produced are genetically similar to the parent and also to each other, as mitotic division produces no vaiations.
