Coconut plant is monoecious while date palm is dioecious. Why are they called so?

Coconut plant bears unisexual male and female flowers on the same plant so is called as monoecious. Male flower is called as staminate flower and female flower is called as pistilate flower. While date palm bears unisexual male and female flowers on the different plant and is called as dioecious.
