Can an unfertilised, apomictic embryo sac give rise to a diploid embryo ? If yes, then how ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Yes, if megaspore develops into embryo without meiotic division then egg cell is diploid. Diploid egg cell develops into embryo by mitosis. Note: Apomixis is a type of asexual reproduction, in which seeds are produced without fertilisation
