The correct Answer is:
A

Catalytic converters are fitted into automobiles for reducing emission of poisonous gases.
Catalytic converters have expensive metals namely (i) platinum (ii) palladium and (iii) rhodium (iv) (Pt-Pd and Rh) as catalysts.
As the exaust passes through the catalytic converter: (i) Unburnt hydrocarbons are converted into `CO_(2)` and `H_(2)O`. (ii) Carbon monoxide is changed to `CO_(2)`. (iii) Nitric oxide (NO) is changed to N gas.
Vehicles equipped with catalytic converters should use unleaded petrol because lead in the petrol inactivates the catalyst.

To find out the international norms to regulate the emission of carbon dioxide. implies Carbon dioxide (CO_2) is the primary greenhouse gas emitted through human activity. implies The international norms to regulate the emission CO_2 are based on Kyoto Protocol. implies This protocol was negotiated in December, 1997 at the city of Kyoto, Japan and came into force on February 16th, 2005. implies As of December 2006, a total of 169 countries have signed the agreement. implies Under this protocol, industrialised countries must reduce their collective emissions of CO_2 and other greenhouse gases to an average of 3 5% against 1990 levels. Why is it necessary to regulate the emission of carbon dioxide ?
