Write alown about energy of orbitals in hydrogen

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The energy of an electron in a hydrogen atom is determined solely by the principal quantum number . Thus the energy of the orbitals increase as follows : 1s `lt 2s =2p lt 3s =3p = 3d = le 4s = 4s =4p lt 5p `
Ground state of H : The is orbital in a hydrogen atom as said earlier corresponds to the most stable condition and is called the ground state and an electron residing in this by the nucleus .
Excited state : An electron in the 2s 2p or higher orbitals in a hydrogen atom is in excited state.
Electron of excited state is weakly attract ground towards the nucleus Ground state energy `lt` excited state energy
