Explain the energy of orbital and extent of shielding in same shell depends on shape of orbitals.

Both the attractive and repulsive interactions depends upon the shell and shape of the orbital in which the electron is present . Reason are as follows :
(i) s orbital shields the outer electron from the nucleus more effectively as compared to electrons present in p orbital
(ii) Due spherical shape of s orbital the s orbital electron spends more time close to electron which spends more time in the vicinity of nucleus in comparison to d- orbital electron.
(iii) Effective nucleus charge : As the angular so s- orbital is more tightly bond to the nucleus the p- orbital electron d- orbital electron .
