Formation of NH4 is preferred at low tem...

Formation of `NH_4` is preferred at low temperature, whereas formation of NO requires high temperature. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`N_2+O_2 leftrightarrow 2NO, Delta H =+ve` for `NH_3` formlation
`N_2+O_2 leftrightarrow 2NO, Delta H=+ve` for `NO_2` formlation
Le Chaletier principle suggests that an increase in temperature favours endothermic reaction by absorption of heat. Therefore, formation of NO is made at high temperature. Formation of `NH_3` is favoured at low temperature, as it is exothermic.
