What is the effect of increase of pressure on the following physical equilibrium?
`H_2O (s) leftrightarrow H_2O(l)`

Text Solution

As pressure is increased on ice, the hydrogen bonds between the molecules in the open cage structure break thus resulting in the decrease of volume, i.e., conversion of ice of water. That is increase of pressure favours forward reaction.
